Materials to consider include cotton, rayon, nylon and polyester. These are natural or synthetic fabrics that can be vat dyed to any color. They are then chemically treated to allow them to accept an electrical charge, allowing them to be flocked.
They can also be cut to a desired length. The length of the flock is determined by the fineness of the fibres and the adhesive coating density.
In addition, the fineness and length of the flock is important to its softness. A softer flock can be made with a finer, shorter length of fibres and more dense adhesive coating density.
The flocking process requires a controlled atmosphere. For best results, a relative humidity of 60% and a temperature of 20degC (68degF) is recommended. This will help prevent the fibres from drying out and causing them to adhere to each other.
Once the flocking is finished, the fibres are packaged in moisture proof bags to maintain proper humidity levels. They are then shipped to the packaging house, where they are assembled and packaged.
